"Hip-hop crusaders"
Don't buy any rap on Nepsydaz. They are not your run-of-the-mill hip-hop wannabes who take to swearing when it comes to their genre of music. True, they were once Nepthugs, but that was when they were mostly an underground band. Well, times have changed and so has Nepsydaz (formerly known as Nepthugs), a tightly packed three-man band. Meet the progressive hip-hip trio Kiran Shrestha (aka Mistah K), Gyanon Chitrakar (aka Zero Level) and Manas Ghale (aka Loorey).

It all started in 2001 when Kiran and Manas got together up to form Nepthugs. Going mainstream was an unknown idea so they started up with underground gigs. While jamming here and there, and after a few smooth miles into the shady hip-hop scene, they thought of changing track. But they had nothing more than eight self-made English numbers that would hardly excite mainstream music companies. "We didn't have an idea about what would sell and what would not," says Kiran, "But we didn't really intend to hit big times. We recorded all those songs at home for the sake of pure fun." It was a conventional market they were attempting to tread into and hip-hop was something too exotic by the standards of mainstream listeners. They had to make it slow and steady.

They hit gold when Kantipur FM aired their song Hell Raiser in its show Music Jam. It literally pushed them into the limelight. But they got their big break when Hell Raiser was nominated for the Best Song in Foreign Language category in the Hits FM Music Awards 2060 BS. And it wasn't something unexpected. The duo had everything that it took to be in the spotlight – music, talent, and attitude. It was just that they couldn't make it faster to that position.

Once on the roll, they didn't have to look back. As the song hit more airwaves, fan mails piled up. The music was fresh, new and exciting. So people just craved for more. They just needed to do something with the band name and the underground status. Gyanon joined the band in 2002 and they adopted a new name – Nepsydaz. Initially, to keep their fans content, they would burn songs in the CDs and release them in the market through personal contacts. "We made a stamp marked with 'KTM Reality' and designed the cover in blue ink. That's how we initially made it through," remembers Kiran. "But that was not going to stop fans from yelling at us for an album. Then we started to think seriously about that."

To make into the market officially, they started to approach music companies but to no avail. "We approached Moonlight Records with the demo but they refused to take us in. They asked us to bring something in Nepali," adds Kiran. But that was not the end. They eventually hit the chords with Indreni Cassette Centre and released KTM Reality, their debut album, in 2003, which did average business. It was the track Chhudaina (remixed version of 1974 AD's original number) from their second album Made in Nepal that hit the high notes and Nepsydaz shot to fame. The other number, Maya O Maya also made big rounds. And it's no surprise that they have again made it into the upcoming Hits FM Music Awards under the same category as they did in 2001.

Gyanon is a composer, album cover designer and also takes care of the recording and mixing while Manas writes lyrics and provides vocals. Kiran is both a composer and a singer who also ran a show called Hip-hop Basement in Times FM for three years. "The band is our collective effort. We are all equals when it comes to composing or writing or recording. It's just that we need to be specific at times," says Kiran.

Nepsydaz third album is titled aayo nepsydaz which is out in the market..it has songs diffrent from their previous two album ktm reality and made in nepal diffrent as in the beats which is more catchy ..99 % of tracks composed by Gyanon and recorded at Nepsydaz home studio..The song you should listen to are one love, mission paisa, she's my girl, timi mero, shake your body(video is done)you can listen to around 11 great tracks from this album.
